"I promised myself after having seen 50 021 in reality, that one day I would actually own the replica nameplate. 38 years later and here I am!
I have seen the said loco 3 times, the first being on the 30th May, 1985 at Paddington. This happened to be on my 16th birthday too. What a present! My mother was with me on that day and we got talking to the driver and he invited both of us up into the cab for a chat and a look around.
My mother always accompanied me when train spotting, as she loved watching the locos too, as it reminded her of all her family. Somewhere I have a picture of 50 021, with me standing by the nameplate on the loco, upon my 16th birthday."
